Hon. Uche Onyeagucha, one of the strongest governorship contestants in the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) has felicitated with Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Imo State Chapter on the 2018 world press freedom day.
Hon. Onyeagucha who bared his mind in a release sent to Nigeria Newspoint by his governorship campaign organization, said he applauds the doggedness, perseverance, commitment and steadfastness of journalists in sustaining the foundation of our democratic culture.
He said as members of the fourth estate of the realm, the fourth pillar in support of the tripod of government, there is no doubt that journalists in the state are upholding their mandate of advancing the principles of democracy.
The APGA governorship ticket hopeful added that the theme of this year’s celebration “keeping power in check: Media, justice and the rule of law” is very apt and underscores the importance of the media, justice and rule of law as prerequisite instruments of checking the abuse and excessive use of power.
The organization urged that journalists should always strive to maintain their integrity and expose all acts that stagnate the fortunes of the nation’s democracy and economic development and also urged them to concentrate on objective and unbiased reportage implies going beyond their personal interests in any circumstance they found themselves.
