A senatorial aspirant for Imo East Senatorial District (Owerri Zone), and Retired Assistant inspector General of Police, Chief Charles Ugomuoh has assured that he would push for legislation’s that would make teachers the highest and best paid public servants in Nigeria of elected Senator in 2019.
Retired AIG Ugomuoh who is aspiring to represent Owerri Senatorial zone on the platform of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, gave the assurance Thursday, during a press conference held at the Imo APGA secretariat Owerri. Ugomuoh identified what he termed the abuse and mis-use of the Nigerian teacher, his under-remuneration and under-appreciation as a major developmental challenge confronting the country saying that only good teachers can produce quality brains needed to revamp all sectors of the Nigerian economy.
“I intend to introduce a major paradigm shift in resolving these issues. First Americans say that those who pay peanuts attract monkeys. The Nigerian teacher is an abused and mis-used civil servant.
He is under-remunerated, under-appreciated and his importance in the scheme of national development is under-valued”, Ugomuoh noted.
He took a swipe at the present state of the teaching profession especially according to him, in Imo state where he claimed that the system does not attract top flyers into the teaching profession.
The Mbaise-born retired police Chief said as a recipe for the ailing power sector, he would equally push for legislations that ensure the establishment of modular power plants to boost small and medium scale industries, and businesses, create jobs and achieve overall boost in the economy. He also played what he observed as the perceived imbalance in police reenlistment in Nigeria especially, the idea of using local governmental areas as basis for the last recruitment exercise noting that arrangement did not favour the South-East.
Ugomuoh therefore solicited the support of Owerri zone and APGA faithful towards the realization of these dreams vowing to help add value to the lives of the people if elected.
