Inspired by their quests to ensure good Governance across the twenty seven Local Government Areas of Imo State, a Socio-cultural Organization under the aegis of Grassroots Development Network has stated their stand on the upcoming general elections.
The noble Organization, said to be non partisan is aimed at ensuring an effective governance, where people’s opinion will count.
Driven by that mission, in their quarterly meeting held last Saturday, April 28, 2018 at Pinewood Hotels Owerri, they frowned at the recent developments in the State.
In a similar note, they maintained that Imolites are already fade up with bad governance, and as such will not tolerate any imposition and impunity in the next election.
According to their statement, “Any aspirant seeking for elective posts must be known by the grassroots. There is no room for ‘political flying boats’. GDN will only support politicians known for their differences and youths empowerments”.
It continues, “GDN has no interest in party affiliation, zoning or even religious inclinations, we are interested on God’s annointed who can deliver this State from its present condition”.
The electorates are enjoined to seek God’s face before pitching tents with any politician.
They said, good governance from the grassroot to the centre will be the bain for a sustainable growth and development in the State.
Earlier in his address, the State Coordinator of GDN, Hon. Chimezie Nweke, disclosed that the group is comprised of young Imolites with proven integrity, poised to drive good governance in their various autonomous communities to reposition the State.
According to him, “We believe in a Government from the grassroot to the centre, void of impunity and imposition. We are aimed at bringing bad governance to its knees and ensure development reaches down to the grass root”, he said.
Hon Chimezie enjoined youths to join GDN in actualizing their visions, make youths’ leaders across boards, as well as taking their rightful place in the political, socio-economic sphere in Imo.
Contributing, the patron of GDN, Bishop Samuel Anyanwu averred that the group came to light following recent happenings in the State which led to sufferings of many Imolites.
He revealed that the Organization which has existed for the past three years, is aimed at sensitizing Imo people on the need for good administration, security, accountability, eradication of bribery and corruption, peace, justice and equity.
He however maintained that for equitable distribution of developmental projects to actualize a better standard of living in the various communities, people with proven integrity must be elected into offices.
The Cleric advised the youths to obtain their Permanent Voters Cards, PVCs, and should as a matter of necessity desist from money politics, stressing that with such ugly trend, they mortgage their future.
“I urge the youths to get their PVC, shine their eyes and queue into the visions of GDN”, he concluded.
