A font line governorship aspirant in Imo State, Mr. OkeyEzeh, has decried the condition of workers in the state. He expressed concern that Imo working men and women have been subjected to an assortment of deplorable and reprehensible treatments by the state government.
In a May Day message to Imo workers which was made available to newsmen in Owerri on Monday, Mr. Ezeh, who is gunning for the gubernatorial seat on the platform of APGA, stated that the pride of every society resides in the contributions of its workers. He added that a society which neglects its workers is on the edge of a precipice.
The top investment advisor lamented that workers in Imo State have endured so many harsh and agonizing policies in the recent past. He said it is unconscionable for the government to place embargo on the promotion of workers and slash their salaries by over forty percent even when government officials squander public funds on exquisite guesthouses, lengthy convoys and completely fruitless overseas trips. He also regretted the predicament of the retirees, who he said expended their brain and brawn working for a decent life after retirement which they have never been able to lead.
The ex-banker however hailed the resilience of the workers in the face of what he described as ‘unpleasant realities’ and urged them to keep hope alive, even as he assured them that better days are definitely near. He enjoined the workers to get enfranchised by registering and obtaining their permanent voter cards to enable them send all the accomplices in their plight packing come 2019. He said his vision for Imo is to restore the dignity of labour, have an adequately motivated workforce, digitize records and banish unemployment from the state.
