A United States based cleric, Bishop Emmanuel Okereke, has declared his intention to vie for the Assembly seat of Ihitte/Uboma state constituency in the Imo house of Assembly in 2019, under the platform of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP.
The Bishop who made the declaration in an interview with Journalists, stated that he was propelled by the zeal to join in the redirection and enlightenment of his people, as according to him, politics is a serious business which cannot be left to politicians alone.
The cleric who is the presiding bishop of Amazing Grace Bible Church, Houston Texas and President, Okigwe zone Progressive Assembly, Texas, noted that failure of past representatives in the area to attract dividends of democracy and change the fortunes of the people contributed to his zeal in serving his people.
He particularly criticized the tenure of the former Speaker, Imo state House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Uwajumogu, now senator representing Imo north in the national Assembly, who is from the area, for his failure in using his office to galvanize support for his people, who according to him, “has been solely oppressed by the government of the day”.
He assured that if given the mandate to represent his people, he would ensure an effective and purposeful representation which would place the yearnings and aspirations of his people for good governance on the front burner.
Bishop Okeke, who maintained that he has traveled around over 37 countries of the world, added that he is already armed with notable contacts and connections with which he could use to attract grants and aids, especially from faith-based organizations to impact positively on his people.
He however slammed the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, for their outright failure in achieving the promises they made to the Nigerian people, adding that the country has changed negatively from what it used to be in the past.
