In compliance with the directive of the Inspector General, IG, of Nigerian Police Force, Ibrahim Idris to all state commands of the force, on disarmament of prohibited firearms and illegal weapons, the Imo State command, on Tuesday, showcased arms and ammunitions it has recovered.
The showcased arms are: 168 guns, 99 Catridges, 2323 ammunitions, and 25 empty magazines.
This was disclosed by the state commissioner of police, Chris Ezike during a press briefing at the command’s headquarters in Owerri.
Addressing newsmen, CP Ezike assured that the effort of the command at moping up illegal arms was in the best interest of Imolites and not to victimise anybody.
He revealed that since the commencement of the mop up exercise, the state has become safer, as there has been reduced number of reported cases of crimes. The commissioner expressed optimism that the catchment of arms and ammunition recovered from wrong hands will no doubt reduce the number of arms and ammunition in circulation in the state and as well minimize thugery activities in the coming 2019 elections.
