After months of intense speculations and uncertainty surrounding his political future, frontline political activist and ex lawmaker, Hon Uche Onyeagucha has finally decided to throw his hat into the brimming Imo governorship ring as he formally declares for the seat tomorrow.
Hon Onyeagucha was originally scheduled to make his intentions public last Tuesday but it was gathered that the declaration was shifted forward to tomorrow because of the visit of the national Chairman of APGA, Dr Ike Victor Oye to the state.
Hon Onyeagucha had shot back into limelight and consciousness of the state last year with his strident criticism of the government of Gov Rochas Anayo Ethelbert Okorocha, particularly his then rumoured plan to impose his son in law as his successor.
After months of Cat and Mouse with the government and it’s aides, the Obinze, Owerri West politician to the surprize of many had dumped the ruling APC, alleging that Gov Okorocha’s misrule had effectively de- marketed the party in the state.
The 2007 governorship candidate of the Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN returned to his original party APGA which he said he was a founding member and on which platform he then contested and won election to represent Owerri Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives.
Since returning home to the house he said he contributed in building, Hon Onyeagucha has never relented in condemning the ruling APC government with the high point being his call on the governor to start sowing his Prison uniform because the prison awaits him after his tenure.
As he declares tomorrow(Thursday,29,the outspoken politician would most likely aim another jibe on the Okorocha led administration amid unfolding of his gubernatorial agenda for the State.
A competent source close to the camp of the astute Lawyer turned politician revealed that he decided to throw his hat into the ring because of the crying need to rescue the state from the mis-governance of APC.
According to the source,Hon Onyeagucha is coming fully loaded with the ideas and vision to turn the fortune of the state around in 2019, if elected. The source added that already the tempo of the race has changed within APGA and the state at large.
He argued that APGA’s chances of grabbing the guber seat in 2019 would be greatly bolstered if Hon Onyeagucha is given the APGA ticket. According to him the ruling APC and PDP were already unease with his entrance into the race.
Analysts are already predicting the possibility of a keenly contested governorship primary election in APGA with the likes of Hon Onyeagucha, Mr Okey Ezeh, Frank Nneji and Mr Nick Oparandudu jostling for the sole ticket of the party.
Meanwhile The National Chairman of the All Progressive Grand Alliance APGA, Ozo Victor Ike Oye yesterday paid a courtesy call on the Catholic Bishop of Orlu Diocese, Bishop Augustine Ukwuoma.
The visit it was gathered is not unconnected with the 2019 general election in the country and particularly in the south east which is the party’s stronghold.
Although details of the meeting have not been made public a source close to the party revealed that the party is not leaving any stone unturned in its push to see that free and fair poll is held and in this regard sees the church as veritable partner in progress.
Ozo Victor Oye who visited Imo State yesterday on a working visit was said to have been accompanied on the visit by the national woman leader of the party, Chief Mrs Ada Orji, the state Chairman, Barr Peter Ezeobi as well as other party stalwarts
