A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and immediate past senator representing Okigwe Zone at the National Assembly, Senator Athan Achonu has said that he is in the race for the 2019 Imo gubernatorial election in order to turn the state into a Japan of sorts.
Senator Achonu who is popularly known as ‘one-arm general’ disclosed that he had in past spent over N6 billion naira in various forms of empowerment for men and women of Imo State origin through contracts. Senator Achonu equally disclosed that he single handedly sponsored PRODA Enugu when he was in the senate aside designing industrial park in each of the geo-political zones of Nigeria, to curb rural-urban migration.
While declaring himself the most qualified for Imo governorship seat come 2019, the Ehime Mbano-born ex-senator revealed that having done well in the private sector, it was only natural for him to bring such ideas to bear in the governance of Imo State.
According to him: “we need credible people in Imo State government. We need strong men to run affairs of Imo State to set things right”.
Continuing, Achonu expressed confidence that he would get PDP governorship nomination for Imo gubernatorial election in 2019 adding that he single handedly fought Sheriff. He said he has the wherewithal to oust Governor Rochas Okorocha in the next election even as he emphasized his massive followership as pillar of strength to win the governorship of the state.
