A chieftain of the All progressives Congress (ARC) in Njaba local government area of Imo State and business mogul, Chief Tony Mgbudom {Big Fish) has blasted some disgruntled members of the party .for attacking Governor Rochas Okorocha over the endorsement of Ugwumba Uche Nwosu by the party’s executives as the party’s governorship flag bearer for 2019 polls.
A group known as Imo ARC Restoration Coalition, had few days ago issued a communique against the ongoing endorsements of the Chief of Staff to the governor by party executives across the state, warning that the party would lose the 2019 elections in the state if Uche Nwosu emerges its flag bearer.
But, reacting to the communique in an interview with journalists in Owerri, Chief Mgbudom who fumed at the manner the group disregarded due proems to attack the governor on the pages of newspapers, insisted that as a true son of Imo State, Ugwumba Uche Nwosu deserved the right to contest for any position of his choice in the state, adding that nobody can stop him from contesting.
According to him, “is it a crime for a son of a poor man to marry 3 daughter of a governor? When has it become a crime for anyone married to a governor’s daughter to contest for a position.
He described the allegation that Uche Nwosu’s endorsements by various LGA party executives came through unfair inducement and coercion as a ruse and cheap blackmail meant to tarnish the hard earned image of the vibrant, youthful and empowerment-driven chief of staff.
Mgbudom maintained that nobody in the party, not even the governor compelled anybody to endorse Uche Nwosu as the party’s choice and that the governor’s acceptance of Uche Nwosu was because of the pressure mounted on him by the members of the party.
“Governor Rochas Okorocha has never asked any aspirant not .to contest for governorship or any other position in the state. But my advice to these people working against the good intentions of Imo youths is that they should come out and declare their intention to run if they think they are popular.
“Uche Nwosu prepared himself for these endorsements that are trooping in for him. In the past six years, his goodwill paved the way for him. That is why my people of Njaba and myself are throwing our weight behind him because he had shown capacity to lead and having known him for years, I know he will do very well to sustain the wonderful projects of Rescue Mission government in the state.
“Ugwumba Nwosu has shown capacity, that’s why we must stop all these politicians who have held the state down for years. We need young and vibrant blood like Uche Nwosu who has shown capacity with a good heart”, he said.
