The Imo State Polcie Command has reiterated its commitment to ensuring that prevailing peace rests in the Niger Delta areas of Nigeria, with particular reference to the oil producing areas of Ohaji/Egbema and Oguta Local Government Areas of Imo State.
The State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Chris Ezike made the pronouncement at the State Police Command headquarters in Owerri Tuesday (March 6) while receiving an award of honour from members of the Niger Delta Media Forum.
Mr Ezike who was represented at the occasion by the Police Public Relations Officer Mr. Andrew Enwerem confirmed the efforts of the police in ensuring that a lasting peace reigns in the area assured that the police would try in the best of their ability and power in seeing that all manner of criminality and violence that have made the areas to be notorious and repulsive are curbed to the barest minimum.
He therefore thanked the members of the Niger Delta Media Forum for the award and their zeal as journalists and the watch dog of the society, as well as their efforts to perform their social responsibility in finding out what obtains in various parts of the state in particular, and Nigeria in general.
Earlier in his remark, the chairman of the Niger Delta Media Forum, Mr. Chukwuemeka Ike explained that they thought it wise and worthwhile to grant the police commissioner the honour because of the dogged fight his command has exhibited in the fight against crime and various vices in the state as an appreciation to the efforts.
Mr. Ike who wished Mr Ezike more success in his future endeavours urged him and his men and officers to sustain the tempo.
