The recent assault meted out to the Catholic Archbishop of the Owerri Archdiocese, AJV Obinna, by some overzealous aides to the Chief of Staff to Imo State Governor, UcheNwosu, has continued to attract reactions from conscientious and Godly people across the State.
The APGA governorship hopeful in the State, Mr. OkeyEzeh, has condemned in strong terms the treatment to the revered Man of God, saying that such amounts to not only an affront to Christians everywhere but also a complete desecration of an institution of God. In a statement made available to newsmen in Owerri, weekend, the management consultant and devout Catholic bemoaned the erosion of moral and religious values in the State and regretted that those in high places in the State have rather chosen to aid and abet this anomie instead of address it.
Mr. Ezeh highlighted that the Archbishop, as a man chosen by God to herd his flock, has it both as a responsibility and an obligation to speak truth to power when the people are oppressed, and must never be persecuted for doing so. He added that the suffering wrought on the people by the Okorocha administration has become unprecedented. Imo State, he said, has been so poorly managed and plunged into debt crisis and unemployment dung pit by this administration, and cautioned that the way out is neither by hushing and harassing the Messenger of God nor intimidating critics but by the failed administration quickly preparing their handover note.
Mr. Ezeh called on the people of the State to put their trust in God and realize that the signs of an end to their plight are now clearer. He enjoined the Church in the State to keep praying for the Archbishop who he described as one of the biggest blessings of God to His people in the State.
