In an apparent response to a recent statement credited to the Imo state governor, Rochas Okorocha, over his perceived governorship aspiration, Sen. Ifeanyi Araraume, has in a veiled reference told governor Okorocha to stop playing God in his Desire to determine who gets what in the politics of the state, as the 2019 general elections approach.
Governor Rochas Okorocha, had in a press release by his Chief Press Secretary, Sam Onwuemeodo, shortly after the APC NEC meeting in Abuja, elongated the tenure of its executive members at all levels for one year, told the former senator from Okigwe zone that he cannot win the party’s nomination ticket for the 2019 election nor govern the state in his life.
Sen. Araraume however cautioned those whom he said arrogate themselves as demigod to try and factor in the role of God in every decision they make in life.
He was speaking at his Destiny Foundation headquarters Owerri, last weekend when his supporters from all the local government areas of the state trooped out in their large numbers to welcome him from his overseas trip and also pledged their allegiance and support to him as one of the leaders of the party in the state.
The senator who admitted that the governor as an individual, has every right to support any candidate of his choice, also maintained that an individual can never determine who governs the state, rather the good people of the state in their large numbers.
On his perceived governorship aspiration, sen. Araraume pointed out that such was never his priority for now as he is currently working with other leaders of the party to build the party and ensure its overwhelming success come 2019.
While assuring the party faithful of the desire of the party to reward them at the appropriate time, Sen. Araraume also encouraged them to remain steadfast in the party against all odds, as according to him, “the party belongs to all of us”.
He further charged them to continue in their support for the party at all levels, stressing that the party remains a better option for them to realize their ambitions.
On the rumoured re-election bid of President Muhammadu Buhari in 2019, Sen. Araraume, also called for a concerted effort by the people of the state to ensure that the president is re-elected in view of his positive track-records of achievements.
According to him, the success of President Muhammadu Buhari in 2019 would fast-track the chances of an Igbo man becoming the president in 2023.
Meanwhile, a chieftain of the All Progressive Congress APC in the state, Sir Stanley Nzekwe has come out to tell Imolites the hidden truth of what he said are reasons why Gov Okorocha seems to be having sleepless nights over Senator Araraume governorship bid.
Sir Nzekwe who was one time council chairman of Okigwe LGA who spoke in an interview with journalists said Gov Okorocha is drenched by fear of what will happen to him if Senator Araraume succeeds him.
According to him the governor is very much aware that Senator Araraume is the only man who can bring him to justice and make him to account for his tenure of eight years in the helm of affairs of the state.
Sir Nzekwe recalled that the front line guber aspirant had already hinted on this line of action recently especially as regards acquisition and conversion of government property to personal estates stressing that the senator as a forthright and upright man who believes in truth and justice would make sure the right things start happening in the state.
Also, he argued that part of the reason for the seeming morbid fear is the governor’s suddenly realization that he has lost grip of the party arising from his failed attempt to truncate the life of party officers at the last National Executive Committee NEC meeting of the party in Abuja.
He described the governor as a implacable selfish leader who is only focused on feathering his own political nest no matter whose ox is gored as his Abuja motion showed adding that it is only a leader without milk of human kindness that can use people to achieve their own goals and turn round to throw them away.
He maintained that the governor has systematically worked towards killing APC in the state but expressed relief that Senator Araraume has lifted the morale of the party in the state again.
Speaking further, he made it known that it is the party executives and other delegates and Imo people that would determine the fate of whoever would emerge as flagbearer of APC and governor in 2019 same way they did in 2011 and not Gov Okorocha.
