AU socio political group in Imo State, Imozurukwo has concluded plans to embark on aggressive voter sensitization ahead of 2019 general elections.
The president of the group, Barr. George Eke, disclosed this in a press briefing, organized by its leadership in Owerri, to intimate the masses on reasons to vote credible persons into public offices in the forthcoming elections.
He stated that the state has suffered so much in poor governance and lopsided administration, and stressed that part of the reasons why integrity challenged individuals are voted into power, could be traceable to poor voter sensitization. He further averred that the group is a coalition of serious minded stakeholders, drawn from the three geopolitical zones of the state, adding that all the registered political parties have representatives as members of the group.
Barr. Eke pointed out that part of the strategies to ensure the group’s aim and objective includes; building structures in all the 27 LGAs of the state and making sure that the citizens are properly educated on the right choice to make in 2019. “The group will carry out sensitization campaigns against public office hopefuls who have nothing to offer to the people” he added.
He criticized the Okorocha administration for playing politics with Imo workers and frowned at the non payment of arrears of Imo pensioners and other entitlements: “Imozurukwuo wishes to break the cycle by encouraging credible Imo citizens to make the good of Imo citizens a priority. We are set to identify such persons, encourage them, and work with them in conjunction with other organizations and stakeholders with similar aspiration”. He noted.
Adding his voice, the chairman, board of trustees of the group, Prof. Francis Dike (SAN) expressed displeasure over what he described as imposition of candidates on Imo people, adding that with the efforts the group had put in place, such anomalies would eradicated. Also, he Director General of the group, Mr. Damain Ezeagu stated that the group is not sponsored by any politician or party, but maintained that it will remain the voice of the people in the coming elections, even as he carpeted Okorocha for unleashing hardship on Imo populace.
In his remarks, the publicity secretary of the group, Comrade Precious Nwadike hinted that they will continue to partner with the press for effective propagation of its objectives, even as he appreciated the executive member of the group for coming together devoid of personal interest to establish a platform that will speak for impoverished masses.
