The newly inaugurated taskforce committee against unethical Journalism practices/ fake journalists has warned fake journalists who indulge in criminal and unwholesome activities to desist forth with or face the wrath of the law.
The committee stated this in its maiden meeting held at NUJ Press center Port Harcourt road Owerri recently.
The Chairman of the taskforce Committee, Mr. Christian Nwokocha of Correspondent Chapel noted that journalists who extort money from members of the public must be brought to book.
The group also noted that some journalists have been impersonating media houses thereby deceiving members of the public in the name of media coverage adding that such journalists will soon be apprehended
More so, the committee has observed with dismay the activities of fake journalists, that is, those who are not journalist at all but goes about defrauding members of the public, this group must be surely face the wrath of the law. It warned that those fake journalists should via this release stop their illegal acts or face the music.
The Committee however advised media houses to compile the list of genuine journalists in their respective organizations to enable the taskforce identity and apprehend those impersonating their media houses.
It warned the members of the public to report the activities of these fake journalists and Journalists who are in the habit of extorting money to the committee for prompt action.
