Contrary to reports by some local tabloids, the adoption of Ugwumba Uche Nwosu by Ideato North Chapter of the All Progressives Congress, APC, as the party’s candidate in the area for 2019 Imo guber seat, has been widely described as a hoax.
Grapevine revealed that the said adoption could not hold, as some big wigs in the party in the area were at daggers-drawn over who would play host for the adoption meeting.
It was gathered that while the meeting scheduled to hold at the country home of Nze Luke Ekwueme, the APC LGA chairman, it was aborted for fear of the unknown, some members of the party boycotted the one slated to hold at the residence of an appointee of government due to what a source described as her high handedness disposition and unpopularity.
Nze Ekwueme’s political foes, which a ward chairman said was increasing by the day, it was leant, were threatening to let hell loose on him (Ekwueme), should he convene any meeting of the party again in his house, let alone discussing the adoption of Uche Nwosu for 2019 Imo guber race. This, our source hinted, was the reason why Nze Ekwueme’s meeting did not hold, as the rumour mills had it that the woman appointee perfected plans to unleash mayhem at his (Ekwueme’s) residence should there be any hint that meeting was going on there.
Another reason for the rejection of Nze Ekwueme’s meeting by the members of the party, it was further disclosed, was that the Ideato North APC chairman, according to them, has over-stayed his welcome as Owelle Rochas Okorocha’s party chairman in the LGA, and should be shown an exit door, as allowing him to pioneer any move for Owelle Okorocha’s successor would spell doom, not only for the candidate, but for the members of the party.
However, the Uche Nwosu’s adoption meeting held at the residence of the government appointee, another source hinted, recorded reasonable turn-out but mostly of the members of Senator Ifeanyi Godwin Araraume’s Destiny Organization.
When contacted, the Chairman, Campaign Council of Destiny in the LGA, Hon. Uche Ifeonu, said he was at the meeting as a member of APC having been invited, but nothing was discussed about Uche Nwosu at the venue of the said meeting.
“Yes, I was invited by her, and as a member of the party, I attended. It was tagged leaders meeting, not for Uche Nwosu’s adoption, except that was discussed when I must have left” Hon Ifeonu stated.
Another leader of the party in the area who pleaded anonymity, corroborated Hon. Ifeonu’s assertion. He said: “I was at the meeting till it ended and there was nothing like adoption of Uche Nwosu; the agenda of the meeting was on how to remove Ekwueme which I also supported.
Meanwhile, members of the Party in Senator Araraume’s camp have vowed not to be part of such an adoption, which most of them described as being averse to the provisions of the constitution of the APC.
