Less than two weeks after he donated the sum of N1million to the state executive of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) a chieftain of the party in Uburuekwe community in Isu Local Government Area of Imo State, Mr. Basil Amaefule has donated six motorcyles to the party in the area.
This came just few weeks after, Mr. Amaefule donated the sum of N550,000 to the 11 wards in Isu and N100,000 to LGA to enable them open an account in any bank of their choice.
Speaking while handing over the keys to the state deputy chairman of the party, Sir Martin Ejiogu, Mr. Amaefule told the party leaders and members to ensure that the motorcycles were used to work for the progress of the party and Isu LGA in general, saying “it will please me if you guys use these motorcylces and go house-to-house in reminding people on the need for them to return PDP back to power in 2019 because that is what everybody is yearning for”.
Amaefule, who is businessman and philanthropist, popularly known as oji ulo eme ogo (one who builds houses for people as favour), explained that he joined partisan politics not to contest for any position, but to use his influence and contact to attract more developments for his community “because this is not what one can do alone.
“I am not a politician that wants anybody’s vote, I don’t give for you to vote for me, I’m not aspiring for any post and I don’t give because I’m the richest, but I am giving these motorcyles so that you can ensure majority of our people who have not registered as voters to do so”, he said.
Amaefule, who promised to continue to support the party to achieve success in 2019, added that he would make more available to enable it go round and urged the party members to continue to work hard by supporting good candidates to emerge during the party’s primaries.
Reacting after receiving the keys, the state deputy chairman of the party, Sir Martin Ejiogu expressed happiness that some of the young men he was grooming in politics in the area now know the right thing to do at every point in time, saying he was impressed that they were learning so fast.
Also speaking, a former member of the House of Representatives, Chief George Osuchukwu, expressed delight that young men were now identifying with the party because the current party in power had dissappointed them.
He advised the party members not to relent in educating the people of the area on the need for them to register and obtain their voters card because according to him, the statistics released by INEC about the position os South East was not favourable at all.
Hon. Osuchukwu expressed optimism that the PDP would bounce back to glory in 2019 because of the misrule of the APC, and urged the party in the area not to be left behind.
In his reaction, the Isu LGA chairman of the PDP, Engr. Udechukwu Anayo commended Mr Amaefule for being a great pillar of the party in the area, recalling that he had made several donations including paying for the party’s office rent and donating about N2million to both the state, LGA and ward executives.
Mr. Mbanali Chinemeze and Mr. Ejimmadu Tochukwu Daniel, chairmen of Ekwe ward 2 and Ekwe ward 1 respectively who spoke on behlf of the others, promised to use the motorcycles to mobilise membership for the party ahead of of 2019.
