As the dust raised by the resignation of South Africa President Jacob Zuma continues to swirl within Africa and particularly in Imo State, where he was recently honoured with a statue, political parties and Imo people have called on Gov Rochas Okorocha to immediately pull down Zuma’s statue.
Speaking to our correspondent on the trending issue the State Secretary of the People Democratic Party, PDP, Hon Ray Emeana said that since Zuma has been pulled down in his own country those who erected his statue in Imo State should also shamefully pull it down.
The party scribe posited that Zuma’s ouster is something to be ashamed of for the reasons that it was his own party that compelled him to resign and not the opposition and also because it is the first time a sitting President has
been forced to step down.
Hon Emeana queried the type of people Zuma’s friends in Imo are if their cherished friend who was lavishly celebrated in the state a few months ago could be allegedly stinkingly corrupt.
According to him the case of the duo of Gov Okorocha and ex President Zuma is most succinctly captured by the saying, show me your friends and i will tell you who you are, stressing that with the latter’s corruption ridden reign exposed, it is not difficult to guess the type of administration his friend is running in Imo State.
In his own reaction, the spokesman of the All Progressive Grand Alliance, APGA in the state, Chief George Nkwoji posited that whether Gov Okorocha likes it or not, Zuma’s Statue and all other statues erected by him would go with him on May 29 2019.
But, to save his
administration the shame and embrassment such action would bring the APGA mouthpiece advised Gov Okorocha to immediately pull them down.
Barring his mind on the raging controversy renown social crusader Sir Bob Njemanze vowed to lead the pulling down of the Zuma Statue and others erected by Gov Okorocha.
Sir Njemanze who described Zuma and Gov Okorocha as birds of identical plummage which naturally flock together opined that with this latest expose Imolites would further get to know the character of their governor.
While applauding South Africa for demonstrating the beauty of democracy, Sir Njemanze condemned in strong terms the prevailing system in the state where all institutions of democracy have been pocketed by one man and given rise to what could be described as silence of the graveyard on the part of
the judiciary and legislature.
Adding his voice, president of Olu Owerri Socio Political Organization Chief Martins Opara described Zuma’s disgraceful ousting as good riddance to bad rubbish and demanded immediate dismantling of his statue in Owerri.
He argue his ouster has finally vindicated Imolites who stood against wasting of scarce state resources on moulding and hosting him adding that the development is signal of what would happen in the state in 2019.
