To ensure the availability of petroleum products at the government stipulated price, the Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR) has advised marketers to always insist on lifting the product from the depots and tank farms at the approved prices.
The marketers should also be courageous enough to expose any cartel that inflates product prices with admissible evidence, to
enable DPR take appropriate action against such nefarious group.
Giving the advice during the 2018 maiden meeting of the Imo State chapter of the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN), the zonal controller of DPR, Mr. Peter Ikechukwu Ijeh, stressed the
need for the sustenance of best practices in the petroleum industry.
He reminded the marketers that any offence committed by lease-holders of their filling stations would be traced to them as the owners of the operating licenses of the stations.
Mr. Ijeh implored them to orientate their station attendants on the need to maintain cordial public relationship, pointing out that the molestation of DPR staff by the attendants would attract N1 Million fine.
According to him, the construction of any filling station without DPR approval attracts N2.5million fine.
The zonal controller warned that any filling station caught under-dispensing or over-pricing products would pay a fine of N100,000 per offence and per pump.
Answering a question, he assured the marketers of the readiness of DPR to always follow the guidelines in dealing with them and urged them to shun touts as they were undesirable in the industry.
In his opening address, the chairman of the Imo State chapter of the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN), Chief Chidiebere Okoroafor, enjoined the members to remain united, peaceful, patriotic and focused in operating and safeguarding their hard earned investments in the petroleum business.
He reminded that they could not borrow money to purchase products and inadvertently allow the enormous investments to go down the drain.
Chief Okoroafor implored them to always comply with the extant guidelines in the industry for successful business outings.
