Contrary to the insinuation in some quarters that the performance of the All Progressives Congress (APC) at both the federal and state levels will have negative effects on the people seeking elective offices on the platform of the ruling party, a front-line political godfather and chieftain of the All Progressive Congress (APC) Chief Cosmas Maduba (Odebube Isu) has said that the 2019 elections would rather be politics of personality and their achievements and not political parties.
Speaking with journalists recently, Chief Maduba, who is contesting to represent the people of Nkwerre/Isu/Nwangele/Njaba/ Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives in 2019, said irrespective of the views of the people about the performance of APC, “the 2019 election is going to be politics of personality and not the politics of party. So irrespective of people in power, track records of individuals will speak for them”.
On why he decided to come from being the kingmaker to become the king himself, he explained that he joined the race as a response to the erroneously long-held opinion in the area that people of Njaba and Isu Local Government Areas in the constituency lack quality individuals to represent the constituency.
His words, “I’m going to the National Assembly to represent my people and it’s going to be the beginning of different story to be told about our land”.
Maduba, whose entry into race for Nwangele/Isu/Njaba/Nkwerre Federal Constituency seat has sent shock waves in the area, explained that apart from the fact that he has the experience and contacts to aspire for higher political office in the Nigeria political system, his emergence would go a long way in addressing the lopsided political equation in the constituency.
He expressed displeasure at the marginalization in Nkwerre/Isu/Nwangele/Njaba federal constituency which he described as the largest federal constituency in the country.
According to him, in the current political dispensation in Nigeria, Njaba and Isu have not produced anyone as a member of the House of Representatives from the area, pointing out that Nkwerre had for 12 years occupied the seat, while Nwangele had occupied the seat for 8 years.
He frowned at the lopsidedness and marginalization in the area saying such imbalance should stop and be reversed, saying that Isu and Njaba LGAs should be allowed to take a shot at the House of Representatives seat of the area in order to balance the equation.
Responding to a question on whether there exists a charter of equity in the area, Chief Maduba said the system is run on a conventional arrangement where common sense is what is required to balance the local system so that everybody would be happy.
On the insinuations that his aspiration to the House of Representatives is belittling his political status, Chief Maduba said it was erroneous for people to make such comments.
”The National Assembly is not a place for the inexperienced, not for small and little minded people. It is for those who can stand and represent their people very well. It is for those who have the network and capacity to deliver.
“People shouldn’t underrate the House of Representatives, the speaker of the House is more than four governors, so it is wrong for people to underrate the seat. My people should watch it, I will be more effective in the House if elected,” Odebube said.
He insisted that those who go to the National Assembly are tested and people of proven record capable of representing their people effectively.
Maduba said he is one of the most capable persons to effectively represent his people, adding that he is not only qualified but has the experience and required political exposure to perform well if elected to represent his people at the House of Representatives.
